A Database

A Database is an open-source research engine and digital archive designed to record, store, publicise and preserve contemporary art and visual culture.
It was created in 2006 by the A Foundation to initiate the digitising and archiving of contemporary art. It has also received funding from Arts Council North West. The website contains further information about the project and its aims and objectives. Under the section `Who' one can browse an alphabetical list of artists, organisations, selectors, curators and owners and view their biographical details. `What' allows one to browse images, photographs and video clips as well as providing further details of paintings, sculptures, print, installation, video, photography and performance. `When' lists events, mainly exhibitions and `When' provides a list of venues with contact details.
