Edward Vischer Collection
This online collection is made up of digitised images of pencil drawings, loose albumen prints and lithographic prints by artist and photographer, Edward Vischer (1809-1878). The collection is housed in the Claremont Colleges' Honnold/Mudd Library Special Collections.
A German-born artist who emigrated first to Mexico and then to California, Edward Vischer sketched and photographed California missions, trees, mountains, rural scenes, and mining operations in the second half of the 19th century. The Honnold/Mudd Library Special Collections houses one of the largest collections of Vischer drawings, lithographs, albumen prints, and bound volumes.
The website allows for browsing the collection by subject, or searching the collection with filters. It is possible to enlarge, manipulate and zoom in on an image; a detailed description of each image is also provided.
