This is the Royal Geographical Society's online exhibition 'Imaging Everest'. The exhibition includes a collection of 20,000 photographs from nine Mount Everest expeditions from 1921-1953. The photographs reveal the importance of the landscape and people of the Himalayan region, and tell the story of those involved in the first attempts to climb Everest. Commentaries attempt to produce an understanding of Tibetan people, Sherpas, Buddhism in Tibet and Nepal and numerous expeditions. Detailed biographies are given of the climbers who tackled Everest.
