The New York Public Library Digital Gallery website has provided this online copy of sixteen scrapbooks containing nearly 10,000 wood-engravings by illustrator Alexander Anderson (1775-1870). Referred to here as "America`s first illustrator", Anderson spent his long and prolific career in New York engraving mainly for book publishers and magazines, as well as pictorial matter for printed ephemera. The resource is accessed through each scrapbook and clicking on the thumbnail image provides bibliographic information, as well as an individual image for each item grouped on each page. Each page is themed and contains a number of images.
