Piranesi as Designer

The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum has provided this Web version of an exhibition held from 14 September 2007 to 20 January 2008 on Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), and his role as a designer. Featuring both Piranesi`s drawings and objects which have been influenced by his designs, this online resource is organised under two headings: `Design' featuring his designs for wall panels, clocks, candelabrum, commodes, and chimneypieces, and `Influence' which features works by Sir John Soane, Robert Adam, Thomas Hope as well as designs by modern architects, Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates, which have been influenced by Piranesi`s designs. The images in each section are organised under different headings, such as architecture, drawings, objects, and prints, with some images appearing under a number of these headings.
