Chinese Dress

Evolution and Revolution is an online resource inspired by a 1997 exhibition of Chinese dress in the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney. Beginning with the Qing Dynasty (and explaining many of the symbols on the era's more expensive fabrics), the resource covers the revolution in dress ushered in by the Republican period (the Sun Yat-sen suit, for example), carrying on into the Mao era and its less austere aftermath under Deng Xiaoping. In each section users will find illustrations of the popular design and clothing of the era.
