Historic Glasgow

A selection of rarely-seen images of Glasgow has gone live as part of the fifth Historic Glasgow event. Historic Glasgow celebrates the city’s rich local history and heritage. The images include an 18th century of view of Glasgow Cathedral surrounded by fields; various bird’s eye views of the city over the past centuries and one from 1888 showing the old bridge over the Kelvin on Great Western Road and the construction of the then new one.In total around 1000 images from Glasgow museums and Mitchell Library archives collection will be uploaded on the website over the coming months. Of that around 200 are images which will have been rarely seen by the public.
